98.68% approval for strike vote at IATSE
A strong sign of union support for a strike that could end nationwide television and film production, 89% of the 59,000 IATSE members voted by a margin of 98.68% in favor of the strike.
The strike authorization gives management the possibility to call a strike at any time. Increasingly, observers believe an IATSE strike is likely to happen as little progress is made at the negotiating table with the Alliance of Film and Television Producers (AMPTP).
The main issues of the strike will cover the long working days that frequently force film production workers to work 16-18 hours a day while on the road, cuts in pension and health care plans, as well as IATSE members being paid less to work on shows and films. that broadcast on streaming services.
(For more on the issues affecting the strike, check out our coverage here.)
“The members have spoken loud and clear,” IATSE said on Twitter by announcing the success of the strike authorization. âOur people have basic human needs like time for meal breaks, adequate sleep and a weekend. For those at the bottom of the pay scale, they deserve nothing less than a living wage. “

2,200 nurses on strike at Buffalo Mercy Hospital
Friday, 2,200 nurses went on strike at Buffalo Mercy Hospital on dangerous working conditions and ill-treatment.
The strike is now entering its fourth day and workers say they are ready to continue as long as necessary.
âSo many of our colleagues have moved from Mercy Hospital to other facilities because they just couldn’t do their jobs under the conditions we are working under now. Our cafeteria closed last week, before the strike, because there was not enough staff to operate it â, nurse Maureen Kryszak told WBFO. âThe staff who remain are exhausted. They are exhausted and their hearts are broken. We want to have a dialogue as soon as possible, but Catholic Health needs to come to the table to make that happen. ”
350 SF Bay Area Sutter Healthcare Worker Strike
In Antioch, Calif., More than 350 hospital technicians and other workers, members of SEIU, went on strike today over dangerous and overwhelming conditions at Sutter Delta Medical Center.
âWe wear too many hats – we talk about angry COVID patients, then we rush for a code, then we talk to family members who have just lost a loved one,â Jennifer Stone, emergency room technician, said in a statement released by the union. âWe cannot provide adequate care. We feel that management is ignoring our concerns and leaving us to fend for ourselves. We can no longer do everything.
Chipotle workers strike for lack of wages during Hurricane Ida shutdown
After flooding from Hurricane Ida in New York City killed 13 people, a local Chipotle in Queens was closed for a week. Now these workers are fighting back after not being paid for the missed work due to Hurricane Ida.
Upset by the injustice, the workers of Chipotle decided to go on strike last week.
âI’ve been working for Chipotle for seven years now and after all this time I feel like Chipotle doesn’t care about the workers. They say they care, but they don’t really do it â, Chipotle worker Roger Meza told amNewYork Metro. “Chipotle just wants to maximize profits and when an emergency like this happens, they just want value for their money, instead of taking care of us the way they should.”
