Missoula airport workers strike
At the airport in Missoula, MT, workers employed by contractors from Delta and United Airlines exited the airport, Protestant wages that start as low as $ 9.65 an hour.
“I had a letter, you know, explaining the rise in rent prices, the median rent being $ 998, and the fact that we’re being offered $ 9.60, it costs us almost 120 hours to just pay the rent. If we work 160 hours full time, that leaves us with a week’s pay to pay for the rest of our living expenses. ” MSO Unifi employee Jared Bonney told KECI.
Following the death of a colleague, Teamsters and ILWU shut down Los Angeles’ main port terminal
Teamsters harbor truck drivers, along with ILWU longshoremen, enter the second day of a strike at the Port of Los Angeles.
Their strike is so big that it has closed one of the port’s seven terminals.
The strike comes after the death of Edwin Cruz, a port truck driver who worked 30 years for Universal Logistics Holding and contracted COVID at work and died on February 28, 2021.
“Even before the pandemic, decades of misclassification and breaking the law by companies like Universal Logistics Holdings left port drivers without the protections we need to stay safe on the job,” the Teamsters said. on their website. “Today the ports are busier than ever because we keep this country running. But we have lost our friends and colleagues to COVID-19 due to the greed of private companies, the denial of essential PPE and the deadly inaction of the Harbor Commission.

U.S. Attorney recommends Neil Barofsky’s appointment as UAW Federal Comptroller
As the UAW emerges from a corruption scandal that has seen several of its top leaders plead guilty to embezzling millions of dollars, including his last two presidents, a federal judge ruled that a federal comptroller be appointed to oversee UAW reform efforts.
The U.S. Attorney General in Detroit has asked a federal judge to approve Neil Barofsky’s appointment as UAW Federal Comptroller. If approved by the judge, Barofsky, a partner at the law firm Jenner & Block, would have ample leeway to monitor and oversee the UAW.
A hero of progressives in Obama’s day, Barofsky rose to fame for his role as special inspector for the 2008 bailout when he repeatedly challenged Obama and Geithner for failing to hold the banks accountable. (Discover his excellent book Bailout on his role as a rescue watchdog.)
A tough prosecutor, Barofsky cut his teeth as the Assistant United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. In this role, Barofsky has faced numerous death threats for his role in the fight against drug traffickers in Colombia.
