More people get health insurance through the Oregon market
More Oregonians have purchased private health insurance through the state-run exchange this year than they did a year ago.
Oregon Public Broadcasting reports that by 2022, officials say 142,783 people in the state have registered for the Oregon health insurance market so far. That’s more than the 141,089 enrolled in the same period last year for 2021 coverage.
The market, created by the Affordable Care Act of 2010, helps people get insurance when they don’t get it through their job – and they don’t qualify for something like the health plan. from Oregon.
Oregon market spokeswoman Amy Coven said more people will be signing up this year due to the US bailout. It was adopted in the spring and aims to help people get through the pandemic.
âThe US bailout actually removed the upper income limit to qualify for financial assistance. So now more people than ever are eligible for help, âCoven said.
More than 75% of Oregonians who purchased health insurance in 2021 received financial assistance.
About 7% of people in Oregon did not have health insurance in 2019. This is slightly lower than the national average of 9%. Massachusetts was the lowest in the country according to recent figures, at 3 percent, and Texas was the highest at 18 percent.
