NFL legend Joe Namath: Jets may need Carli Lloyd on their roster to kick after pre-season stumbles
Professional Football Hall of Fame member Joe Namath said his team may not be the favorite for a good season this year, but suggested the New York Jets could find help from football star Carli Lloyd.
“I’m going to shoot for these jets,” he told FOX Business’ Neil cavuto during an interview on “Cavuto Live” on Saturday.
“After seeing what we saw in the preseason, I’m not sure it’s not up to Carli Lloyd’s agent to contact the Jets about a shooting job,” did he declare.
“I’m pretty sure this is a position the Jets will look to take,” Namath said in a veiled reference to kicker Taylor Bertolet’s poor performance when he missed three long-distance goals in the victory of the team over the Eagles in their final preseason game.
Lloyd went viral after scoring an impressive 55-yard field goal in a practice session with the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Ravens earlier this month. FOX Sports reported that this even led to an offer from an anonymous NFL the team to have him in a preseason game.
“I’m all for the opportunity, and if it can win the job, so much the better,” he said.
“Anyone, male or female, if they are able to work and can do it as well or better than anyone else, they should have this opportunity to work.”
Knowing how violent the game can get, the great NFL player said he always believes biology makes men better at handling punches on the court.
Joe Theisman weighed in on the clip while chatting with FOX Business’s Stuart Varney on Wednesday, calling it a “great opportunity” for the World Cup star.
